I’ll bet that there is no doubt in your mind that you’d like to be in better health. You may feel like a slug, maybe even a fat slug, and you’re tired. And you are wondering, does the amount of sugar I am eating a factor?
If you are like me, you’re tired of being tired. You’d like to be able to work in the garden without having to pop Advil the next day. You want to have the stamina to take life by the horns and do whatever you want to do with it. Especially since you have worked so hard and saved your money and now you have the financial resources to do things.
I’ll bet you even know some things that should help you to have better health, but you’re having trouble finding the motivation. Especially in cutting back on the daily amount of sugar. You feel entitled to it now that you have worked so hard. You’re not alone.
And sometime life and human emotions complicate matters. Such as you can be motivated by one thing for a week, then find that no longer floats your boat. You need different motivation depending on your mood, what time of year it is, or even what time of the month it is. Are you shaking your head yes?
Here are some ideas on where to find motivation for the here and now. Something different for tomorrow and the day after that.
Daily Stories – Make it a morning habit to surf the net or newspaper for stories of overcoming obstacles and reaching success. Chances are you will wee a little of yourself in there and will get you going for the day. This is especially true when you can relate to the hero of the story.
One place to find these stories is the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Or just go to your public library and look up motivational stories. They might have something to do with sports or losing weight that really grabs you. Before and after pictures can really solidify that encouraging feeling you get after you’ve read the article.
Motivational Quotes – For me, sometimes all it takes is an inspiring quote to get you on the right path for the day or week. It opens up my thought waves for the day and I just run with it. Check yard sales, Craigslit, eBay or just Google for it. You can find books of quotes everywhere. I’ve gotten some of my favorites from a daily calendar.
Cheery Friends – Ask your cheery friends what motivates them. Steer clear of the naysayers and pessimists and stay hanging around the positive people. It could even be a neighbor that gets your adrenalin pumping and makes you feel like reaching harder for your personal best. Ask for their favorite vegetarian recipes and make a game out of it. Who’s do like best? Have your family rate them.
An Accountability Partner – When you partner up with someone who wants to change also, you’ll find you motivate each other. If your plan is to exercise every other morning together – they are counting on you to hold up your end of the bargain and you will feel committed to do so.
A Personal Life coach – At some point there might be a time in your life when you want a professional to help you. And quite frankly, you deserve to have someone there to cheer you on. Life coaches are pretty quick to figure out what gets you motivated and they will keep you motivated on the “why” of cutting out sugar and how you will benefit if you do. You can also check Google for accountability clubs or plans and find what suits you.
Making life changes for a better, healthier you is not always easy. Try any of the above methods to keep yourself motivated and your eye on your health goals. And I invite you to take a look at kicking sugar as a source of more energy and better health in your life. Especially if sugar related diseases run in your family.
