If you were told by someone right now, what the best exercise to lose weight was, would you do it? Perhaps you might, after you have ended up reading this. The two most common reasons that usually stop people from losing weight with exercises are either laziness or injury. If you are not injured, then you need to motivate yourself and make a resolution or set a goal that is easy to meet, to start with.
Broadly, aerobic (light strength training) and anaerobic (intense strength training) are the two types of exercises and each one achieves weight loss differently. Aerobics is great for all round health and burns large amount of calories very fast, which results in quick weight loss. Anaerobic exercise burns fewer calories and is great for building up strength and muscle mass. However, increased muscle mass helps a person become leaner and lose weight because as muscle develops, it uses up large amount of calories.
Aerobic Exercises
Brisk walking – Walking is a great whole-body aerobic workout, guaranteed to burn calories. After a small warm up with regular walking, increase your pace and maintain that speed for as long as you can.
Going up and down steps – Stepping up and down accelerates your heart beat and burn calories. Start with 10 steps to begin with, gradually increasing it to 20 of 2 sets.
Swimming and Cycling – These complete body workouts with multiple benefits are ideal for weight loss.
Anaerobic Exercises
Push Ups – Push Ups is a form of intense strength training and is an excellent way of getting an upper body workout. Regular pushups of 10 to 15 of 3 sets will boost your metabolism, burn calories and fat and prevent bone loss. Increase in metabolism leads to increase in burning body fat.
Squats – Squatting not only strengthens your legs, it will help you burn excess calories and lose weight. It is an intense workout for the entire body, making you sweat a lot, thus burn a lot of fat. Squatting with weights builds muscle and burns fat at the same time. Keeping your back straight with feet apart, lower your body down and then raise up 10 to 20 times for 2 sets.
Control your diet
A small change in your diet along with exercise is the fastest way to lose weight. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables and raw nuts in your diet and stop eating processed, high carbohydrate food. This way, there will be fewer intakes of calories and you may not be required to make huge sacrifices for losing weight.
